Solo Project - Competition Entry 2013 New Orleans Dance Academy

This is an individual competition entry for an institutional building to house the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra and the New Orleans Dance Academy. The program includes a theater, classrooms, public event spaces, and a restaurant. I made an effort to design for LEED certification, implementing advanced 3-phase mechanical equipment, which is separated into zones by the building’s nocturnal/diurnal occupancy, and specific timed activities such as classes and performances. 

The challenge to optimize the building systems in the hot & humid climate of New Orleans called for passive cooling strategies such as a breathable circulation core that acts as a thermal chimney, an array of rooftop photovoltaic panels, and insulated glass with a PV ceramic frit that reduces solar heat gain and produces electricity.
